New Car Stereo

New Car Stereo

Postby ucatchtrout on Wed Jul 01, 2009 11:37 am

Bought a few toys recently. Besides the tv I got a new car stereo. Hadn't planned on it, but I got a warning from the Washington State patrol for talking on my cell, and it was time to get a hands free device that works.

I've tried three different earpieces....even the Jawbone one that is supposed to be the best. I found them all uncomfortable, and hated using them.

So I was looking for a device to install in my car so I could listen to the caller through the speakers. The one that I found cost a couple hundred bucks.....after professional installation.

So instead, I bought a JVC tuner that had that feature for a little more. Pretty cool. Now I get satellite radio, plus DVD, CD, and AM/FM.....and I can plug my IPOD into it.

Incoming calls interupt whatever I am listening to, and I get a message on the viewscreen telling me who is calling.

What kind of hands free device do you use?

I have to remember about using my ear set when driving in Washington. I think Oregon is or has already implemented the no cell phone rule.

I had a friend that uses the speaker phone style. I think the only inconvenience for him is if he has passengers while a phone conversation is going on for everyone to hear and he has to tell the person in advance that he is on a speaker phone.

Can you switch between speaker and headset?

I can switch between the speaker and a headset, or the phone itself.

Oregon has already passed a law against hand held cell phone use. It goes into effect after the first of the year. The difference between Oregon and Washington law is that in Washington they can only give you a warning for it and can't ticket you for it unless you were committing another violation. If you were speeding or changing lanes improperly or something else while talking on the phone you make yourself eligible to recieve two ticket.

In Oregon they will be able to pull you over and write you up just for talking on a hand held.
