Anyone else here like to fish?
I caught three chinook salmon today at Buoy 10. Of course you only get to keep one....but I lucked out, because one of the guys on the boat didn't like fish so I used his tag. Had a great time. Probably smoke one tomorrow. Already cut up the other one, shrink wrapped it and put it in the freezer. |

I used to do some hunting, and camping up in Klickitat, have never fished it. It is nice up there, very dry though. Enjoy the Salmon, sounds tasty. _________________

I used to fish almost twice a week with my dad growing up.
Slowly getting back to fishing with my sons. Been mostly trout fishing by Haag Lake and the Wilson River.
Is there any good places to fish for salmon on the westside of Portland? |

Not really, unless you head over towards the coast and fish the Trask or the Wilson near Tillamook. Closest spot for you might actually be mouth of the Clackamas. Nice park, great stretch of river to fish. Its a nice enough place to hang out that even if you strike out you don't feel cheated. I know a guy who has taken three from that spot in the last week using wedding rings and spinners. Best early morning, or evening. Best at high tide. Upstream, just past the 99w bridge is also a good spot right now. In a week or so there will be more fish upstream....behind the bowling alley. There are a lot of fish in the rivers right now but they haven't been biting like they were in the spring. They bite best on days when the barometric pressure is above 30.
Yesterday I got a 25 lb chinook out of the columbia at Longview. |

Cool, thanks, that is great info.
My son was telling me he has several friends catching salmon out of the Sandy river, but couldn't tell me where on the Sandy.
I may have to wait until winter time, as I was planning on using Christmas as a good time to buy my boys some steelhead / salmon equipment. |

The Sandy is a great river to fish.
Best local bank action now....is on the Clackamas.
Christmas time is steelhead time on the sandy. Last week of the year and first week of the new year are best time to go. I know a guide who can take you to places where you can get a bite on the first cast and limit out every day. He grew up on the Sandy, knows where the fish are and exactly what to use. |

If you want to catch a steelhead on one throw, you can do it with these guys around the first of the year on the Sandy River. They know where the fish are and how to get them. Winter steelies hit fast and hard, and are really fun to catch. You are not always gonna get one on the first throw, but a steelie will often hit a lure first time it hits a hole. Great thing about the winter trips is you can get your fish on a half day trip.
I'm going with Brandon next Sunday to Yaquina Bay to fish in a tourney. |
